What DraftBudget does

It is a planning tool, not accounting software: use it to work out what a project will cost and show the numbers to the people who decide.

Building the budget

Lines nested up to four levels
Headings, activities and sub-items. Drag lines to reorder them, and collapse a section to focus on the rest.
Quantities, units and periods
Each line is a quantity, a unit, a rate and a frequency, such as 2 people × 12 months. Charge only a share of a cost when another funder covers the rest.
Changes in plain words
Ask DraftBudget AI to “add a 10% contingency” or “double the workshops”. You see a preview before anything changes. By default it runs on your device.

The arithmetic

Totals that add up as you type
Change one rate and every heading above it updates straight away.
Overheads and indirect costs
Add percentages such as admin costs or VAT to the whole budget or to a heading, and see them as their own lines.
Several currencies in one budget
Price each line in the currency you pay in. Totals are converted with daily exchange rates.
